In what ratio of closeness and distance do we want to live together as a society? Does this ‘we’ even exist? And what influence do architecture, dance, and performance have on our living together? These and other questions will be discussed at the symposium Utopien des Zusammenlebens by numerous artists, theorists, and experts. The lectures are held in English and German. Summer in the city

Summer 2020 in Munich will be a very special one. As replacement for the Oktoberfest, an extensive program is planned for several public places and quarters, which will be transforming the whole city into a festival from July 24 until September 13.

You might have already discovered some of the stalls and carousels that have been set up recently on public places such as Mariahilfplatz, Weißenburger Platz and Wittelsbacherplatz or the Ferris wheel at the Königsplatz that will give us some Oktoberfest vibe this year. The Olympiapark will attract with more action and many fun rides such as the world's largest transportable white water rafting track, the Jumanji running stall, a roller coaster and the Munich Lach-Freu-Haus. Along the lakeshore, several market stalls, booths, and small restaurants will offer knuckles and other delicious snacks to put you in the right mood. Also, the summer stage is coming to the Olympic Stadium again, so you can look forward to concerts, shows, and many other events.

Should you still miss the beach this summer, the Theresienwiese surprises with Caribbean flair right in the middle of the city and will definitely bring some holiday feeling to you. 70 cubic meters of sand will cover an area of 1,000 square meters and invite you to relax under shady palm trees. You are welcome to bring your own drinks and food and you do not have to consider opening times as the area is freely accessible.

A special highlight is the wandering stage, which delivers local artists to your quarter for free. From rock, pop, classic, folk to jazz – each concert lasts around 45 minutes, with an intermission of one hour in between. The admission is free, however the number of persons is limited due to the respective location. A maximum of 200 guests is possible, but please make sure to leave your contact details.

With Fit in the Park, you can practice for free in the Westpark, Ostpark, Luitpoldpark and Riemer Park every day from 6 p.m. on. No matter if you prefer yoga, pilates, or power fitness – you can just walk by and join. In the mornings, there are meditations in the rose garden starting from 8 a.m. On the Theresienwiese, you can find a mix of trend and team sports from table tennis, speedball, mountain biking, Wiesn-Wadl-workout, Frisbee, beach volleyball, and much more. The Gasteig is likely to be transformed into an open-air sports field with offers for parkour and wall tramp. There will be a skateboard rental offering courses on the Museumsinsel and a trampoline with air track is planned, too.

As you can see, Munich has so much to offer this season, which makes it super easy to spend your holiday at home. Enjoy the summer in our wonderful city!
