Information regarding Covid-19
How to get in touch with the Welcome Services
team
Since March 18, 2020, the Technical University
of Munich has been working under restricted operations to limit the
spread of coronavirus. We are now resuming on-campus operations for our
employees after June 2, 2020. The current safety regulations continue to
apply. Please find the official information on the university lockdown on
the TUM website. Kindly note that all face-to-face services
including the personal submission of documents are currently suspended
until further notice. We are happy to offer you online consultation. You
can still reach us via telephone and e-mail. Thank you for your cooperation and
understanding.
Spouse & Partner Community on the online
platform Slack
We are regularly posting updates on
our news community on Slack for your spouse or partner regarding new
online programs such as live streams, webinars, online workshops, sport
or kids’ activities as well as good articles or blogs dealing with the
current situation. If your spouse or partner hasn’t joined us on Slack
yet, they are very welcome to do so now. Please understand that this
platform is a service for the spouses and partners of international
postdocs and researchers only. To the Welcome Services News community
KVR and immigration office
Please note that the KVR and the immigration
office (Ausländerbehörde) are open again, but by appointment only.
Wearing mouth-nose masks is mandatory and the minimum distance
requirement of 1.5 meters also applies. For those of you whose visa or
residence titles are going to expire soon, please see the website of the City of Munich with all relevant information. Due
to the current situation, TUM decided to extend all working contracts of
third country internationals that can provide TUM HR with the necessary
confirmation from KVR by September 30, 2020 – even if a new residence
permit cannot be presented because the current one maintains its validity
for the time being.

Zeit zu zweit – Time for two
As the Kinderkunsthaus is
currently not able to offer their regular open program, they have come up
with a nice alternative. ‘Time for two’ offers you the opportunity to
create art in pairs, of course in accordance to the necessary hygiene and
distance rules. There will be a maximum of 15 pairs distributed in the
large workshop room. Each team will find all necessary and freshly
disinfected materials at their assigned place. Varied design themes and
techniques enable everyone to be creative and to implement their own
ideas. In any case, the artists go home with special, self-designed
objects of which they can be proud.

Flea market on the Sauwiese in
Weihenstephan
What could be a more pleasant way to
spend a relaxed Saturday afternoon than a stroll through the flea market in
picturesque Weihenstephan? Despite the somewhat misleading name of its
location – “Sauwiese” roughly translates into “sow meadow” –, the name
has nothing do to with the actual reality of the lush grass area. The
event itself strikes us as quite different than the location name,
assuring a comfortable experience as you meander through the different
bits and bobs that will be on sale. It is also known that this particular
flea market is a popular meeting point for dedicated slowpokes.

Mini-München will take place
Mini-Munich is a play city in which many things
work like in a real city. It is managed and administrated by children and
adolescents who are supported by adult staff. Just for the start of the
summer holidays, children and adolescents between the ages of seven and
15 can work, study, stroll, start a business, elect their own city
council, and much more for around three weeks from Mondays to Fridays.
Because of the coronavirus measures, the 20th edition of the Spielstadt
will be a very special one: Mini-Munich moves out of the event hall into
the city and is distributed to venues all over Munich.

Hofflohmärkte
Hofflohmärkte (engl. courtyard flea markets) are a Munich favorite
during the summer season and a perfect way to get to know and explore
the different neighborhoods and districts of Munich. Due to the corona
pandemic and the related conditions, the yard flea markets were not
able to start in March as usual and have been postponed to late summer
and autumn under compliance of hygiene and safety measures.
The Hofflohmärkte will take place
at different parts of town and give you the chance to really take a
look into the secret backyards and gardens of most houses while
strolling around and making some bargains. Since every resident can
open up a little flea market stall within their garden, backyard or
courtyard, you are welcome to participate and to speak good riddance to
your less beloved items, and free up some much-needed space.
Nevertheless, there are quite a
few generic recommendations that are supposed to facilitate a seamless
enterprise. They have stood the test of time throughout years of
practicing the tradition. First, you will have a lot more fun if you
are able to incite your fellow neighbors to participate as well. Apart
from the proverbial “the more the merrier”, a much larger audience and
set of potential buyers will be attracted to your stall, thanks to
increased representation on the map showcasing the participants. Do
note that this is only the case if multiple garden and courtyards are
used for the flea market, as opposed to multiple residents converging
into a single place, and thereby only earning one spot on the map.
Despite the event taking place in
all weather conditions, it is definitely a good idea to take some
precautions, such as getting umbrellas and pavilions for additional
sheltering. It is also not possible to sell items in open and therefore
‘public’ areas or spaces, nor on the sidewalk. Another critical legal
aspect to bear in mind is that in order to obtain permission for
participation, property management or your homeowner should be
contacted prior to the event.
Registering for the event can easily be done online, and you can find additional
information about the schedule that has been set for the different city
districts on the website as well. You will find that prices are
reasonable, for only a total amount of 15 euros is required per
courtyard or garden registered for the flea market. The early bird
discount even brings down this participation fee to 10 euros per
courtyard or garden.
