KVR and immigration
office
Please note that the KVR and the
immigration office (Ausländerbehörde) are open again, but by appointment
only. Wearing mouth-nose masks is mandatory and the minimum distance
requirement of 1.5 meters also applies. For those of you whose visa or
residence titles are going to expire soon, please see the website of the City of Munich with all relevant information. Due to the current situation, TUM decided to extend all
working contracts of third country internationals that can provide TUM HR
with the necessary confirmation from KVR by September 30, 2020 – even if
a new residence permit cannot be presented because the current one
maintains its validity for the time being.

of the Munich Filmhochschule. Besides the good old Autokino in Aschheim, this is the only drive-in cinema option that could open in
Munich, for the time being. Please check their websites for further

Typically Munich
Summer by the Isar
The Isar River in the heart of the city is a real treasure for the inhabitants
of Munich. Where else are you able to swim, relax, barbecue, float,
raft, and surf while being in the middle of the city?
In
2000, many stretches of the river got renatured, and now provide a real
urban nature and relaxation area with many green and spacious gravel
banks to chill and relax. The little pools and islands around the Flaucher
are a unique adventurous playground for kids, and great biking
trails invite sport enthusiasts but also families to explore the
areas along the Isar.
As
we move into the hot summer months, the Isar quickly becomes the first
choice when it comes to finding a nice spot to cool off and have a good
time in Munich. However, it often appears as if there are hordes of
people clustered together. This is the case especially in the areas
that are close to the city center, around the Reichenbachbrücke for
instance, but also the Flaucher can get super
packed due to the popularity of the BBQ areas. But please note that due
to Corona regulations, it is
unfortunately still not permitted to have BBQ at the Isar.
The
Eisbach, a side arm of the Isar, was originally more known among
tourists due to the nudist areas at some parts of the English garden.
Nowadays, however, the Eisbach Wave, a
surfer’s hot spot and probably the world's most famous river wave,
became one of the main tourist attractions in Munich. The city even
opened a second artificial wave upstream at the Floßlände in
Thalkirchen near the Flaucher beer garden, which is said to be easier
and therefore better for beginners.
Another
way to enjoy the Isar to the fullest, is by paddling out into the deep
end and spending more time there, as opposed to merely taking a dip and
swimming about. Did you know that you can make use of an inflatable
rubber boat? While this option is definitely worthwhile due to the fun
factor, as per usual, there are a couple of guidelines that you should
follow.
When
coming in from the South, you are free to take your boat up to the
Thalkirchner Straße, which is right where the bridge is. If you happen
to move beyond this allocated area, being fined is not out of the
ordinary. It is also advised that when on the boat, you either refrain
from alcohol completely or enjoy it in moderation – a maximum of 0.5
per mil alcohol is allowed. In any case, please be aware that you
should be a relatively good swimmer. It is advisable to invest in a
higher quality boat, with sturdy material that will not be as easily
punctured by any stones or branches that you might encounter along the
way.
If
you are the slightly less adventurous type, you can also just put on
some music and relax, and you will almost feel as if you are taking in
your beats by the beach. If you want to stay away from the crowds, you
can visit less frequented areas, such as the northern parts of the Isar
near St. Emmeram. Nevertheless, please always make sure to tidy up
after yourself as trash is being left behind, and it remains a pressing
problem not only in and around the Isar.
